McBriare Samuel Lanyon (born Vernor Winfield McBriare Smith IV on April 30, 1990), better known by his stage name Mac DeMarco, is a Canadian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer. In my opinion his music is extremely calming and inspiring, not to mention down to earth and relatable. For those unfamiliar with Mac, here are some interesting facts:
- He was in several bands in highschool which helped push him to follow his dreams.
- He started in 2009 right after high school
- Before branching out as Mac DeMarco, he first emerged under the moniker Makeout Videotape.
- He was inspired by Ceonnan Mockain, Billy Joel, The Modern Lovers, Harry Nilssin, and The Beatles
- His first sing was called My Jean
- Mac DeMarco quit cigarettes and alcohol because he didn’t want to be trapped on it.
- His first album was called Rock and Roll Night club, published in 2012.
- Mac Demarco’s music is inspired by artists like Lou Reed and Jonathan Richman, but also contains elements of punk rock and new wave. His sound has been described as a mix of psychedelic rock, alternative rock and soft rock with a hint of jazz.
- Mac Demarco has released six studio albums: ‘Rock & Roll Night Club’ (2012), ‘Salad Days’ (2014), ‘Another One’ (2015), ‘This Old Dog’ (2017), ‘Here Comes the Cowboy’ (2019) and ‘Old Dog Demos’ (2020). He has also released several EPs and singles.
- His grandmother was a popular opera singer and his grandfather was a saxophone player.
