Celebrating Black History Month by Celebrating Those in Our Lives: My Father, by LaMarc Hubbart ’26

My dad was born on September 5th, a long long time ago, and unfortunately he didn’t grow up with his parents, as they gave him to his grandmother when he was very young. Despite only having his grandmother to raise him, he still had brothers and sisters that he was able to be around to make it easier on him. Eventually though, at 18 his grandmother died. He was obviously very sad but he continued to work hard to provide for himself and eventually met my mother. Though he didn’t have a father in his life to teach him how to treat a woman and just be a man in general, he was still able to treat my mom with the utmost respect and love, and they eventually married.

I chose my Dad because not only he is an amazing role model to me, but also an amazing teacher, father and overall person. Without him I wouldn’t be able to be the person I am today, I respect him because despite his hardships, he still manages to care for his family and teach me how to be the best person I can be. My dad is a wonderful person and I am very thankful to have one like him.
