Delilah’s Super Bowl Recap

By Delilah Reyes ’26

Kansas City has done it again! Back to back! The Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in Super Bowl 58, becoming the first team in 19 seasons to repeat as Super Bowl champions. Kansas City’s quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, delivered a thrilling second-half comeback, including some overtime heroics, showcasing his generational skills in the previous two games.

The game was largely uneventful and sloppy for the 3 quarters, with team’s ultimately combining for 4 turnovers–3 fumbles, and the Mahome’s first interception in his past 7 playoff games. However Mahomes came through when it mattered most–on the final drive of the game, leading his team to the game ending, Super Bowl winning touchdown.

The 49ers, who were a 4th down stop in overtime away from taking home the Lombardi trophy, continued their 2000’s Super Bowl heartache. San Francisco has a 29-season championship drought, losing all three Super Bowl trips in 2012, 2019 and now 2023, after winning five Lombardi Trophies within a 13-year span between 1981-1994.

The Usher halftime performance was pretty good, with special guest performers such as Alicia Keys, H.E.R ,Lil Jon, Ludacris, Will.i.am and Jermaine Dupri.

The game also had many famous faces in attendance, including Jay-Z, Beyonce, Lebron James, Kayne West, Paul Rudd, Lady Gaga, and somebody named Taylor Swift.

But now the football season is over till September—but I’ll go ahead and make the prediction guarantee now—my Chiefs are gonna become the first NFL team ever to three-peat!
