10th Ward Election Results Bring Little Surprise

It was an election night that more or less went as expected, with Peter Chico and Ana Guajardo heading to a runoff in April after no candidate in the race to replace retiring Ald. Susan Sadlowski Garza received a majority of the vote.

With all votes reported, Chico held 41 percent of the vote to Guajardo’s 26.6 percent.

Óscar Sanchez finished in third with 18 percent of the votes, Jessica A. Venegas was in fourth with 11 percent and Yessenia Carreón was fifth with 3 percent.

The vote will take place on April 4th, when Paul Vallas and Brandon Johnson will also be in a run-off to be Chicago’s next mayor, after finishing first (34%) and second (20%) respectively in mayoral voting on Tuesday.  As all recent polls predicted, current Mayor, Lori Lightfoot, finished third with 17% of the vote, becoming the first sitting Chicago mayor in 40 years to lose a re-election bid.
