Optimism in the air at St. Francis de Sales

By Ahmir Hamlet ’23

The 2022-23 school year is beginning with an aura of renewed optimism. Principal Facen, who is in her third year at the helm of St.Francis, is focused on advancing a variety of goals and visions for the school and its students.

First and foremost on Ms.Facen’s mind is the upcoming launch of the work study program.  She is very excited for the school and moreover students to have this opportunity. “My primary goal is to always help our kiddos dream. It’s my hope that work study will offer opportunities for Pioneers to envision themselves in careers that they may never have thought possible,” said Principal Facen.

According to Ms. Facen, Junior and Seniors will be the first classes to begin the program, and will report to their jobs in the coming weeks.

Also, according to Ms. Facen, Saint Francis will be getting fresh new furniture in all of our classrooms.  Some of the furniture–from new movable desks to new movable chairs-will be supplied by a company named KI. Furthermore, our cafeteria will have a new look.  Principal Facen said she wants the lunchroom to ¨look the way we feel inside”.

“Our goal (for enrollment) is 200, and I know we will get there and beyond.”

Lastly, while the enrollment has doubled in the past two years, Principal Facen has an even higher goal in mind. “Our goal is 200, and I know we can and will reach that number and beyond.”
